About
Hi, I’m Rachael.
I help experienced tech professionals get unstuck in their job search and back in the driver’s seat of their careers.
I’ve been the recruiter, the hiring partner, and the person who walked away from a safe path to build something of my own.
My coaching practice
Nearly 20 years of helping people through big transitions
Coaching has been the common thread in my career. Now I help ambitious professionals make bold, intentional moves toward a future they’re excited about.
Inside tech hiring
For 10 years I recruited for fast-growing Bay Area tech companies. I advised founders on who to hire, designed interview processes, and trained hundreds of interviewers. Along the way, I coached some of the top minds in tech through their biggest career decisions.
Supporting people in crisis
Before tech, I worked with families in crisis as a Child Protective Services caseworker and at a therapeutic foster care agency. I also supported people with no safety net as they escaped domestic violence and rebuilt their lives.
Trained as a coach
I’ve completed multiple relevant professional and personal coaching programs, and I bring their tools and frameworks into every session with my clients.
Feeling stuck might not feel like a crisis. But the longer you stay in limbo, the more it wears you down.
It drains your energy, chips away at your confidence, and shrinks your sense of what’s possible. Months turn into years, and stuck becomes your new normal. If this resonates, you don’t have to stay there. Whether you want a new role, a new company, or an entirely new path, we’ll build a roadmap that has you excited about the next 5 to 10 years of your life.
My story
My personal journey of reinvention
I grew up in Indiana in a conservative family where stability was the goal. Get good grades. Get a degree. Get a respectable job. Work hard. Play it safe.
I followed the plan at first. I earned my degree in psychology and started my career in social work, helping families navigate complex challenges. It was meaningful work, and I was good at it, but it drained me. The low pay, the broken systems, the constant burnout. I felt trapped.
I spent my weekends doing what I called my “Barnes & Noble therapy.” I’d grab a coffee and a stack of books from the psychology/self-help shelves and read until the store closed. Those books helped me see that the life I’d been handed wasn’t the only option.

So I did something drastic.
I quit my job, sold my house and almost everything I owned, moved into a trailer, and left Indiana with no clear plan. Just the certainty that I was meant for more.

I drove across the country to California with no job and no network. I lived in that trailer for nearly three years, and I spent the last year in the Santa Cruz mountains, picking up odd writing jobs. It was incredibly lonely, and I didn’t know what to do next.
Then one conversation changed everything.
A friend who was an engineer told me I’d be good at tech recruiting. I knew nothing about tech or recruiting, but I did my research and applied for an entry-level job in San Francisco. They made me an offer after my very first interview.
At 30, I started over at entry level, surrounded by people fresh out of college. If you’ve ever worried that it’s too late to start over, I’ve been there. I rebuilt my career from the ground up, climbed the ranks, made multiple six figures, and built a name for myself in an industry I hadn’t even known existed a few years earlier. From the inside, I saw how hiring really works: who gets interviews, who gets overlooked, and how much one referral can change the outcome. I had finally “made it.”
Except I was burnt out. I was fed up with toxic work culture and tired of pouring my energy into building someone else’s dream at the expense of my own. I looked at the people ahead of me in their careers and didn’t want their lives. More stress. More corporate politics. More chasing status that didn’t actually matter. I had worked my ass off to get there, and it still wasn’t what I wanted.
My personal life had its own leaps. I left a 10-year marriage, and later a relationship that wasn’t safe, and each time I rebuilt with the help of the chosen family I’d found. Today I’m in the healthiest partnership I could have imagined.
Then, in early 2024, I was laid off. Recruiting teams are usually the first to go when companies stop hiring, so I know how disorienting it is to lose a job you were good at. I had offers to go back. Instead, I started asking bigger questions. What do I actually want? What would it look like to build something meaningful that felt aligned with my purpose?
And then I took another leap.
I walked away from tech to help others do what I’ve done: take control of their future, reach their potential, and build a life they love.
Today I help tech professionals get clear on what they want, get seen by the people who make hiring decisions, and build careers that fit the lives they want. If you’re feeling stuck right now, I’ve been exactly where you are, and I know the way forward.
How I coach
What working with me looks like
Coaching is a partnership, and you get out of it what you put into it. Together we’ll get clear on what you actually want, work through what’s been holding you back, and build a plan you can act on every week.
Built around your whole life
Your career is one part of your life. We get clear on where you’re headed and what you want, then build a career that fits.
A clear framework
Once I understand what you need, I’ll lay out a clear framework so you know exactly how to get where you want to go.
Real work between sessions
You get practical exercises and tools in your own workspace, plus direct support from me between sessions.
Honest feedback
I’ll tell you what a hiring manager would think, challenge your blind spots, and hold you to the plan you set.
Introductions to my network
I’ll personally connect you with people at your target companies and show you what to say, so you’re not doing cold outreach alone.
Someone in your corner
I’m your coach, cheerleader, and biggest fan. You’ll never feel like a client on a checklist.
I only work with people who are ready to show up and do the work.
As much as I’d love to, I can’t do it for you. And even if I could, I wouldn’t, because going through it yourself is how you grow into the next version of yourself.

A little more about me
Outside of my professional experience, I’ve led large-scale creative projects, taken unconventional paths, and designed a life that blends freedom, fulfillment, and adventure. Those experiences sharpened my ability to manage complex projects, solve problems creatively under pressure, build resilience, and make bold, strategic moves. They’re the same skills I now help my clients build.
One of my most challenging and rewarding ventures has been co-leading BRC Snow Club, the Burning Man camp I founded with my partner, Dylan, in 2022. In 2023 we grew the camp five times over and built the first-ever dry ski slope on the playa in under five months, all while I was recruiting full time at a startup.

I’ve also learned what it takes to build a creative career by supporting my partner, Dylan, aka Major Trouble, in his rising music career. Together we navigate the music industry, build community, and co-produce immersive events that bring people together in a safe and supportive space.

We call the Bay Area home, and we’ve designed our lives around freedom and flexibility so we can travel, explore, and experience the world together.

Here’s what I know for sure
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or at a crossroads
You don’t need more time.
Clarity doesn’t come from waiting. It comes from doing. Every day you hesitate is a day you could be making progress.
Success is intentional.
You aren’t going to stumble into your dream job or your best life. You have to choose it.
You don’t have to figure this out alone.
You may know what you should do, but there’s a reason you haven’t done it yet. The right guide holds you accountable, challenges your blind spots, and pushes you past hesitation. That’s what turns intentions into real results.
I can help you break through the noise, make a plan, and finally move forward.
